Do you know the difference between Liposuction and Lipofilling?
September 01, 2017
The term ‘lipo’ originated from the Greek word ‘lipos’, meaning fat. The basic difference between the two procedures is that one removes fat and the other fills areas with fat. Both liposuction and lipofilling can achieve aesthetically pleasing results.
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure used for removing unwanted fat from areas of the body to improve its shape.
The procedure involves extracting small areas of fat that are hard to reduce through exercise and dieting alone. This procedure is not a substitute for traditional weight loss and a healthy lifestyle, but used sensibly can really enhance the result of cosmetic surgery and the resulting feeling of wellbeing.
Liposuction can be performed on any area of the body, but it usually targets areas of the body where deposits of fat tend to build up. Popular areas are the inner and outer thighs, stomach, chin and arms.
Generally, a maximum of six pounds is removed depending on the area that is being treated. If the desired amount to be removed is more than this the procedure can be done in stages, but only if it is safe to do so, which will be based on the individual.
The results of liposuction are generally long lasting, providing that a healthy weight is maintained.
Lipofilling is a cosmetic procedure which involves moving fat from one part of the body to another. The aim of this procedure is to remove the unwanted fat, and use it to smoothen or increase the size of another area.
Lipofilling can be performed on any part of the body, providing there is enough fat to take from the area it is unwanted, in order for it to be inserted into the desired area.
Popular areas to have fat extracted from are the thighs and stomach. Usually patients look to increase the size of their breasts, buttocks or lips, or to smooth out and restore volume in their face.
The amount of fat that can be removed depends on the individual and which area of the body is looking to be increased in size or smoothed out, which will be discussed at your consultation.
Lipofilling is an increasingly popular alternative to dermal fillers as it has a more permanent, long-lasting result.
